Best iPhone Apps and iPod Touch Apps

iPhone apps there are thousands of them. Some are good but eventually get deleted. These are the ones that stay on my iPod Touch. Obviously people's favorite apps are what are useful to them. Hopefully you'll find one or two from here that'll be of benefit to you.

All in One App - Best iPhone Apps

AppBox Pro has all those $1 apps combined into one app. Tip calculator has tax and rounding up or down and rivals my previous favorite tip app. Dashboard is handy if you customize it which you can. Can see days until, upcoming holidays, etc. Unit conversion is just as good as any other with tons of options. But ultimately what really makes this app great is the ability to customize it and set order of appearance of the various fields. Backing and restoring data is a bonus too.

Art try demo (10 artists) has classic arts with excellent biographies of each of the artists. You can view them over internet the images or you can download all images which fills up 1GB of space or selectively choose to download all images for a paticular artist. Each image you can double tap or pinch to zoom in or out. Art has 6,000+ images available from 169 artists. Sure you can see all these for free on the excellent Web Gallery of Art that has 22,000+ but it's nice and convenient on the iphone.

Brushes great painting program. Even has layers now too. Must be artistic obviously to use this. For those of you who are go crazy. Ladybug painted by my daughter.

Juxtaposer image masking app. Same author of ColorSplash. Use it to make a collage overlaying images upon images (as seen in collage of iphone games). Clone stamp tool to make multiple copies of overlay image mask. Change faces or objects and transplant in other photos.

Photogene has crop, rotate, mirror, color correction, few image effects, border frames, and text bubbles. Undo and Redo buttons. Can resume last session.

PhotoSketch try demo (disables saving) creates pencil or chalk black and white sketches. Can output 640 x 640, 1280 x 1280 or 1920 x 1920.

Resizer is only one I found that can resize photos to specified dimensions. Can save many target dimensions. Plus it's free.

News - Best iPhone Apps

News Feed just a bunch of links to mobile versions of news sites but has one ability which may be of interest to you. You can bookmark any article and it'll be saved for offline reading. Images won't be saved but the text will. If that ability doesn't appeal to you then skip this app. Tap in bottom right corner either in portrait or landscape to navigate back/forward, add bookmark, access bookmarks, lock orientation or access main list of links by tapping home icon.

NPR News has news but what sets this apart from the others is the tons of radio stations and ability to listen to most any audio segment. Can pause the audio streams too.

NYTimes has offline reading for all news articles with support to saving the cache for up to 7 days. Reading offline you won't see ads nor image within the article. If you manually save an article the image will be cached. Can resize text larger/smaller within the articles. Can email an article within the app (without exiting) for 3.x OS users.

Bloomberg is great financial news app. Stock quotes, price charts and market trends analysis.

Reference - Best iPhone Apps

US Historical Documents is an excellent searchable collection. Which contains US Constitution, Declaration of Idependence, World War II Documnets, etc. Each document is sorted by Century.

WordBook Dictionary & Thesaurus of the English Language has hyperlinked thesaurus words, favorites, history, Crossword and Anagram Solver. Criticized prior for not having pronounciation nor origins of words. Now it has both. Can click on any word in definition to quickly look up.

Remote Access for Macs

RemoteTap best for remote control of a Mac. Can put Mac to sleep and wake it up via wifi or even at a remote location. Automatically scale zooms menu selections. Handles multi-displays. Has many custom keypads. Much faster than Jaduu VNC $25 in my tests and I like it better too. Support for FrontRow, Spaces, Multiple Displays. Laser Pointer for Keynote (Apple), Impress (Openoffice) or PowerPoint (Microsoft).

TV and Movies - Best iPhone Apps

Air Video try demo (only limitation is shows 3 listings in dir) watch any xvid or mkv movie files remotely on your iphone or ipod touch. See my review.

Movies Box Office - Opening This Week / Top Box Office. Theaters - Local Theaters. Upcoming - by date. DVD - new releases. Movie ratings by Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes. Many movies and DVD releases have trailers. Can change your netflix queue.

TV Shows is the best of the bunch if your trying to keep track of a few of your favorite TV shows. However, you can keep track of your favoirte TV Shows with What's on TV? (see app below) so the only reason to get this app is really if your into newsgroups as it shows you the Season number and Episode number which is always handy to know. Also it shows you a listing all seasons with all episodes with title names and air dates. Able to mark episodes see (icon turns green) and remains red if unseen. Season listing is in reverse chronological order.

What's on TV? allows you to input your zip code, choose your service provider, select only channels you wish to view. Can view TV schedule in portrait or landscape. Can click on show for show details or network to see the daily programming for that network. Time navigator to easily switch to a particular time or even jump forward or backward for days.

Miscenellanous Apps - Best iPhone Apps

Instant Messenging
Beejive $10 allows attachments to be received and to ability to send them too if party can receive them.
AIM Free and Yahoo Messenger. Also there is a AIM $3 too which disables the ads and has landscape support.

Social Networking
Facebook and Twitterrific which is a free twitter client with ads or Tweetie 2 which my brother-in-law says is the best.

Air Mouse Pro works well to control your Mac/PC remotely with pre-defined media buttons for common apps.

AppMiner is a app to monitor price drops in the app store. Can flip between Free or Paid and save to your favorites to see when you wish to buy the app. Can filter categories. To monitor price flucations over time I prefer appshopper.com which Arn runs in addtion to the renowned toucharcade.com

iHappyDays tells you birthdays of your contacts. Can sort based on age or upcoming birthdays. Plus it's free.

Grocery IQ built-in database of 130,000 items, email shopping list, automatically organize by aisle. Build new list from history. Can input barcodes and has builtin prices. Multiple store support.

Pro-Knot for learning how to tie knots. Nice illustrations.

WifiTrak is worth it if you have slow wifi connection or experience drops at home. Many times it's your neighbors wireless router and your wireless router sharing the same channel. Most routers don't show what channel your neighbors are using and neither does the built-in wifi browser for iphone / ipod touch. WifiTrak lets you see if your both on channel 6 for instance and you can change your router to another channel to avoid interference. Screenshot shows 2 of my neighbors are sharing channel 6 and two are sharing channel 11....must suck to be them.
