Shushi Catalogue - Best Japanese iPhone Apps

Shushi Catalogue $4 contains 80 entries. It is a 1997 elementary school book that was scanned in and converted to an iphone app. Think of it as a mini encylopedia. It contains a wealth of information. All of it is in Japanese except the names in romaji in the index and also shows the English name on the pages. For each sushi it shows a nice clear photo and scrolling down you can see another photo of the fish / animal in the sea. All the photos are excellent definitely a professional production. You can zoom if you wish by pinch gesture but no real need as the photos are already pretty much max screen size. Swipe down to access the menu. Toggle on/off auto rotation (always landscape just flips to other side if you rotate). Press index button and quickly scroll through the index. Many of the sushi is probably unheard of if you've never been to Japan and many most likely won't be available at your local American Sushi joint.

SushGuide - Best Japanese iPhone Apps

SushiGuide $2 has 18 entires plus 4 (shoyu, shoga, wasabi, ocha). Swipe to advance to next one. Double tap for description and when you swipe you'll stay in description mode and likewise for sushi mode. Nice interface with all images against a black background, however terrible translation of the sushi description. Guess that's ok if you want some entertaintment, but the author of app should definitely should hire a translator. You can set your iphone to Japanese and you'll get the content in Japanese and at least in Japanese it makes perfect sense. Sadly this is one you should avoid at least for now.

SushiMonger - Best Japanese iPhone Apps

SushiGuru $2 try demo is one of the best sushi guides with it's sheer amount of over 200 sushi covered. Browse by swiping up or down or search to narrow down your selection. Search by either sushi name or ingredient. I love it because it shows the fish picture by clicking on little fish icon. Even has sushi spoken in Japanese for each of the Sushi. I posted an extra three screenshots just to show the wide variety of sushi available is this excellent app. Clicking little star adds it to your Favorites section. Click Notes icon to add a Note to a sushi if you wish. Eco Info is about ecologically friendly. I'm not too sure about this but this is a nice touch. It recommends ones you should stick too and ones to avoid. Overall SushiGuru might just be one of the best of the sushi apps yet although it is sometimes a few sushi entries are sparse in the description although others are lengthly.

SushiMonger - Best Japanese iPhone Apps

SushiMonger $2 . All Sushi mode lets you scroll through all 90+ entries for sushi. Sushi Type mode has a breakdown you can scroll through. Search mode searches through name and english name description (not detailed info though). Each item you can mark if you wish one to five stars and in Favorites section it'll keep them sorted by ranking. Each description you can add a note if you wish (tap note icon top right) and it'll show a tiny note icon indicated you have a note saved. Overall this is well laid out and favorites via ranking is definitely a nice handy feature.

Sushipedia - Best Japanese iPhone Apps

Sushipedia $1 has about 70 entires. Covers those typically found in American Sushi bars / restataurants. Such as California Roll, Boston Roll, Dynamite, etc. Can search / browse by Attributes or Type. Also can type in search for name or name of any ingredients which is pretty handy.
