Mac OS X DVD CD iso img Burn guide

Shows how to backup DVD or CD iso or img image.
Mac OS X Disk Utility free
Toast Titanium 6 $80
Dragon Burn $43

Both Toast and Dragon Burn support external dvd burners natively.
However, for Disk Utility to burn to an external dvd burner you need to add your paticular dvd burner to your Mac OS X profile. Do this with patchburn (donationware). Now iDVD 5 and other apps can burn directly to your external burner. As far as I know there is no utility or program to change Book-Type (DVD+R media to booktype DVD-ROM).

Here's some handy commandline commands
drutil list
drutil info
drutil tray open
drutil tray close
drutil tray eject
disktool -e disk2

Mac OS X Disk Utility

Choose Images | Burn or just click the Burn Button.

Browse to your DVD .iso image and open it.

If it's a CD .iso just choose a CD burner.

Since this is a DVD .iso I chose an external dvd burner. Eject disc after burning. Click Burn to begin burning.

Shows progress of dvd burn. I wish it showed percent instead of just visually and also buffer of the dvd or cd burner would be nice. Only Dragon Burn does these two things.

Toast Titanium 6

Choose Select and browse to your .iso image. Choose DVD external burner (or superdrive if you have one) on the bottom.

Choose your Write Speed or better just leave it at Maximum Possible.

Choose After Writing: Eject and Close Disc. DAO (disc-at-once) and TAO (track-at-once) only apply to data and audio CDs. Press Record to begin burning.

Here I'm just burning a linux .iso image so I chose the internal CD burner.
